The Pattern Festival in Ballylanders is one of the original local community festivals and happens every August 15th. In recent years the festival committee have revived the activities happening at the festival and crowds have been known to come in their thousands to the thriving community. Having developed into a week long celebration, this year’s line-up includes the famous Wolf Tones as well as dancing by Checkers, Discos on the street, the offical opening of the new community playground, Texas Hold ‘Em poker game, a comedy show and much much more.

The Glenroe Harvest Festival is in it’s 3rd sucessful year and anticipation about the festival has grown with each passing year. Running from September 10 to 17, this year’s committee will bring headlines such as The Saw Doctors, Crystal Swing as well as having a fashion show, table quiz, kiddies disco and a monster BBQ.  More information can be found on the festival’s facebook page or www.glenroeharvestfestival.com

The festival was launched last week in the beautiful settings of Castle Oliver in Ardpatrick, a neighbour to the celebrating village.

Both festivals are being organised by local volunteers and all monies raised will be used to upgrade community and sporting facilities. We wish them both great success and are proud to be associated with them both.

In a bid to celebrate our rich Irish history, The Turning Tide, brings together a group of very talented young people from different corners of the country and demonstrates the true talent we possess in both music, song and dance. Playing until August 12 in Fermoy, Youghal and Mallow, the first half of the show brings the audience through the earlier part of our history before the Irish Republic. It commemorates the passing of time in a manner that’s uplifting and excellently executed. The second half of the show brings a more modern element to the show and highlights the talents of a modern, highly educated and gifted people.

The past six months have been exciting for us here at Fermoy Print & Design! We’ve expanded our staff, we’ve added to our product range and services as well as developing a new website, new social media and new marketing. So, to celebrate all the positive news we’ve had and to embrace the future, we ordered a cake!

We gathered some of our customers along with our colleagues at the North Cork Referral Group (NRG Networking www.nrgnetworking.ie) at the Fermoy Community Youth Centre last Thursday morning, July 7. It was an opportunity for us to time show others how things have changed for us since we started business in 2005 and how bright is the future. Liam, the manager/owner of Fermoy Print, told of how he purchased the business in 2005. At the time it was known as Blackwater Press and we primarily printed duplicate and triplicate docket books on an old Litho printer. Dave Heffernan was an employee with Blackwater Press and made the transition with Liam into Fermoy Print & Design. Thankfully, six years later, Dave is still here with us.

In these short six years we have changed premises, grown our business to include high tech full colour digital printing and book binding as well as expanding our areas of business to include personal and educational stationery.

Since October 2008 we have been involved with the NRG Networking Group. The group meet every Thursday morning from 7.30 to 8.30am so we had our relaunch following their meeting at the Fermoy Community Youth centre.

One of the main attractions is the All Ireland Ferguson Heritage Vintage Rally in Castletownroche. Billy Sheehan and his crew have been working hard to put together a day to remember for anyone with an interest in farming or vintage machinery and cars. It promises to be a wonderful sight and we were proud to work with the organisers to produce the programme for this weekend. Our in-house designer Kieran Dwane designed the beautiful programme here. There will be over 300 entrants to the different competition and events will kick off at 1.30pm on Sunday (July 3, 2011) with Gerorge McAleer, the national Ferguson Heritage Co-ordinator.

The Fermoy Flower Club and the St Patrick’s Church in Fermoy are hosting A Festival of Flowers as part of the celebrations marking the Bi-Centenary of the church. The event is being launched tonight in the church and the festival will open at 11am on Saturday morning (July 2) and again on Sunday (July 3) at 1pm at the church. Fr Aduin Casey is the administrator of Fermoy Parish and worked with us this week to produce a beautiful Souvenir Programme. The cover was designed by Gerry Condon. Flower & Garden Clubs from various parts of the country are coming to display their goods and really should be a lovely event.

Fermoy Rowing Club are hosting their annual Regatta this weekend. It’s a wonderful event and always attracts hundreds of people to the town of Fermoy. In his address at the launch earlier two weeks ago, chairman Cllr John Murphy said this years Regatta will attract over 1,000 competitors and supporters and there will be 211 races every 3 minutes from 8am on Sunday morning! The Fermoy Business Action group are hosting a River Festival in conjunction with the regatta to further entertain the visitors and spectators. The Blackwater River may have cost Fermoy a penny or two over the years but it is a wonderful (and very beautiful) resource and this weekend, the Regatta will help show off the wonderful asset it truly is to the town. All week we’ve been working with the Rowing Club to produce this week’s programme. This cover was deigned by Kieran Dwane.

So in all it’s been a very busy week! Now that it’s Friday evening we’re off to enjoy the weekend and try and get to as many events as we can. Best wishes to all the different committees involved. We hope the sun shines and everyone else spends the weekend in the North Cork area!

Muiris Bartley is a name that will soon be in bright lights. Today (July 1, 2011) Muiris heads to Australia as the only Irish representative on the World AFL team. He is one of only two European representatives.
Muiris, who is in 5th year, worked at Fermoy Print and Design for a little while and kindly took a break from his last minute packing yesterday to visit us all here. We were delighted to be able to wish him well in person and to sponsor him on his trip. We’re proud of you Muiris and congratulations on your wonderful achievement. You’re going to do brilliant.

What we need are quotes or sayings that inspire you and get you through the working week. Words and phrases that you as a busy and creative person use as a source of encouragement. Something original. Something unique. Something that means something to you.

What we don’t want are well-known quotes by famous authors, politicans and entrepreneurs. Living Irish authors, politicians and entrepreneurs are more than welcome to send us in something, of course.

We will then publish a collection of approximately 100 quotes crediting you and your business. You know you fit the bill if you consider yourself a down to earth, hardworking Irish business person! You can be self employed or an employee. A business is not necessarily something that is defined by an office job or how many days a week you work. Maybe you’re a gardener, a lorry driver, a explorer, a charity worker or even a pathologist.

Quotes must be a maximum of 200 words and everyone featured in our booklet will receive a number of copies to give to friends and family. This booklet will then be sent to all of our customers, we will be giving them out  free of charge at all our events, in all of our business packs and everyone wants one!
